At these reading corners, children gather regularly to read, share, learn, and reflect in an open and friendly environment that is free from academic pressure.
🎯 Why Vachan Katta?
In rural areas, children often lack access to quality books, reading spaces, and mentors who can guide them beyond textbook learning. Their worlds are small — limited by rote education, lack of exposure, and little encouragement to explore or question.
Vachan Katta was started to change this — to help children build a relationship with stories, develop their voice, and see a world beyond their village.

घनश्याम कोळी हा तुरखेड्याचा विद्यार्थी धामणगाव येथे शाळेत शिकतो आणि त्याच्या धामणगावच्या मित्रांसोबत नियमित कट्ट्यात येतो. मात्र इतर मित्रां सारखं त्याचं कट्ट्यात येणं एवढं सहज नाही, कारण तुरखेडयावरून धामणगाव हा प्रवास त्याला पावसात अतिशय खराब असलेला रस्ता पार करत यावं लागतं. तरीही काहीतरी नवीन शिकण्यासाठी घनश्यामला पुस्तक खुणावत असतात आणि त्याला कट्ट्यात यावेसे वाटते....
यावर्षी मात्र घनश्यामसोबत अजून त्याच्या गावातील त्याचा मित्र येऊ लागला. विशेष म्हणजे हा विदगावच्या शाळेत शिकतो. तसं धामणगावला त्यांचं यायचं काही कारणही नाही. तरीही "घनश्यामचा कट्टा काय आहे?" हे बघण्यासाठी एके दिवशी ज्ञानेश्वर आला…....
आणि कट्टा त्याचाही होऊन गेला...... कट्ट्यात आता आम्ही नवीन खेळ खेळत आहोत.... वादविवाद स्पर्धा!
यात आमच्याच भविष्यातील, आम्हाला पडलेले असे अनेक प्रश्न अशा मुद्द्यांवर सध्या आमचं विचारमंथन होतंय......
कट्ट्यात यायला पाहिजे की नाही,
आपल्या गावातल्या चांगल्या गोष्टी आणि वाईट गोष्टी.....
इंग्रजी माध्यमाची शाळा की मराठी माध्यमाची शाळा.....
अशा असंख्य प्रश्नांमध्ये ज्ञानेश्वरमुळे एक विषय आणखी वाढला, विदगावची शाळा की धामणगावची शाळा......
आधी अजिबात न बोलणारी, लाजणारी ही मुलं स्वतः विषय निवडतात आणि बोलण्यासाठी खूप उत्सुक असतात. कधी कधी तर डोळ्यात पाणी येईपर्यंत पोटतिडकीने आपला विषय मांडतात.
आणि तेव्हा मग खात्री पटते. खरोखरच यांना शिकवण्याची गरज नाही, गरज आहे फक्त त्यांना हक्काची जागा, शिकण्याची संधी उपलब्ध करून देण्याची...
Sweet memories from our Katta.........
Today, the children were feeling very reluctant to read books. At such times, we come up with new and playful activities. While an important discussion was going on, the participants’ voices began to rise. We were all listening attentively, when suddenly Ghanshyam quietly added his own “tadka” (flavor) to the moment. He picked up the lunchbox lying beside him and used it in such a way that it seemed as if a cameraman was capturing a significant event through his camera.
Until then, we had been completely focused on the discussion. But now, we were torn should we watch the participants or Ghanshyam? Meanwhile, Ghanshyam was deeply absorbed in his own world.
And truly, his confidence, creativity, and performance taught us that learning does not exist only in books. It also happens in play and in every activity that makes children think and gives them an opportunity to try something new.
Children like Ghanshyam cannot simply sit quietly—their creativity flows outward. We realized once again that when imagination is alive, even toys, lunchboxes, or stones can become meaningful tools.
Indeed, children learn on their own. They only need such spaces where their imagination can grow freely.
आमचं गाव, आमचं जग
छोटसं असलं तरी, आमच्या भविष्यातलं आणि आमच्या स्वप्नातलं जग मोठं बनवणारे आमचे सोबती म्हणजे ही पुस्तकं...
जगभराचं ज्ञान, आभाळभर साहस, आणि ओंजळभर आनंद आम्हाला देतात...
कधी कधी तर पूर्ण पृथ्वीला मिठी मारण्याचं स्वप्नही दाखवतात!
आज आम्ही अशीच एक गोष्ट वाचली
"मैं पृथ्वी को गले लगाना चाहता हूँ... यदि पृथ्वी पर रहने वाले सबको गले लगा लूँ, तो मैं पृथ्वी को गले लगा सकता हूँ..."
असं म्हणणाऱ्या आमच्या नायक मित्रासोबत आमची छान मैत्री झाली.
आणि आजवर ज्या मुलांनी आपल्या आई-वडिलांना, भावा-बहिणींनाही मिठी मारली नव्हती,
अशी सगळी निसर्गाची लेकरं... आम्ही सगळी निसर्गाची लेकरं... पृथ्वीला मिठी मारायचं स्वप्न बघू लागलो!
आजची आमची तारांगणाची मैफिल...
विविध आकारांची विविध रंगांची असंख्य गोष्टी घेऊन आपली सोबत करतात ही पुस्तके......
असंख्य पुस्तकं , अनेक गोष्टी शिकवत असतात. कधी हसवतात, कधी रडवतात ,कधी विचार करायला भाग पाडतात ,कठीण प्रसंगी आपली सोबत करतात. या पुस्तकांशी आम्ही हळूहळू मैत्री करायला शिकत आहोत. या भन्नाट प्रवासात आमच स्वतःच ही पुस्तक आहे जे आम्ही स्वतः तयार केल आम्हाला हव्या त्या आकारात हव्या त्या रंगात आमची स्वतःची गोष्ट घेऊन. आम्हालाही आमचं स्वतःचं पुस्तक तयार करता येतं ज्यात आमची गोष्ट आहे.......
ही भावना, ही कलाकृती आणि हा प्रवास आमच्या बालमित्रांना खूप शिकवून ,आत्मविश्वास आणि आनंद देऊन गेला.....
