SONSAVLI

A thriving native forest nurtured by Maay Mati Foundation, where 2,000 trees now flourish using the Miyawaki method—a dense, biodiversity-rich green space rooted in indigenous species.

ABOUT SONSAVLI

SONSAVLI is Maay Mati Foundation’s flagship environmental project, dedicated to creating a thriving native forest that nurtures both nature and community. The initiative began in October 2022 on 2.5 acres of land provided by the Gram Panchayat of Awar village, located 18 km from Jalgaon city, Maharashtra.

With over 2,000 native trees already planted, SONSAVLI is steadily transforming barren land into a vibrant ecosystem. Our team is committed to nurturing this forest for the first three years, after which it will be handed over to the local community — creating a sense of ownership, responsibility, and connection to the land.

The Journey of Sonsavli.

What started as a simple act of planting a few trees has now grown into a living forest — SONSAVLI, a dream rooted in the soil of Awar village, just 18 km from Jalgaon.

How It All Began

On a peaceful Sunday morning, 23rd October 2022, the very first 56 saplings were planted on the 2.5-acre land graciously given by the Awar Gram Panchayat. There was no big event, just quiet determination and hands full of hope.

A week later, on 30th October, the energy grew stronger — 500 saplings found their place in the earth. From that day onwards, it became a daily rhythm: water the plants, plant a few more, and watch something beautiful take root.

Growing with Every Step

By May 2023, we had already planted 1,000 trees across 1.25 acres (50 gunthas). Each tree was planted with care, mostly by volunteers, local youth, and our team — often in the early morning or late afternoon, with conversations, laughter, and the sound of digging in the background.

A major boost came on 5th March 2023, when Jain Irrigation Systems Pvt. Ltd. donated drip irrigation material for 1,000 trees. Just two days later, on 7th March, the system was installed — every tree got its own lifeline.

Completing the Forest

Between 15th July and 15th August 2023, during the lush monsoon, we planted another 1,000 saplings in the remaining 1.25 acres. The forest started to feel real — greener, thicker, and more alive with every passing week.

As winter set in, manual watering began in November. From November to April, trees were watered by hand using pipes — a labor of love, done consistently by our ground team.

Finally, on 4th April 2024, the remaining trees got their own drip system — thanks to the support of Rotary Mitavan, Architect Nature Foundation, and Arogya Bharati. With that, every single tree in SONSAVLI had water reaching its roots, drop by precious drop.

SONSAVLI Today

From 56 saplings to over 2,000 native trees, SONSAVLI is now a space of life, learning, and community. Birds have returned. The soil feels richer. Children come to play and learn. And most of all, it has become a symbol of what a small group of people can achieve when they care deeply about the earth.
